The Queensland Agenda
A lot has happened in Queensland in recent times – from devastating and extreme weather and now to reconstruction, from a global financial crisis and more recently a resources boom. Queensland has experienced its share of ups and downs.
In the lead up to this year's election, OurSay is hosting a special forum for the state of Queensland. For the next four weeks, LNP Leader Campbell Newman wants to hear from you and find out what your top questions are about the LNP team’s vision for Queensland. In mid-February Campbell will respond to the three most voted questions on OurSay.

Will you close the loophole in Qld law that allows “gay panic” to be used as a defence to murder? An expert legal committee has recommended changes that will close the loophole unless there are “exceptional circumstances”, will you match the government’s commitment to implement the recommendations?

Will you promise to immediately halt Fluoridation if you form government in Queensland? Anna Bligh was demonstrably wrong when she stated "There is no evidence that any disease or illness or condition is more prevalent in Townsville, or Sydney or Melbourne than it is in any city without fluoride." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1SB1_0_L3Q Townsville Health Service District residents, Fluoridated for over 40 years, are admitted at a higher rate than people from other parts of Queensland for potentially avoidable conditions including asthma, congestive heart failure, convulsions and epilepsy, congestive obstructive pulmonary disease, dental conditions (***), ear, nose and throat conditions, and pyelonephritis. http://www.health.qld.gov.au/townsville/Documents/executive/e_csp_bgp3_demogr.pdf A number of these diseases are associated with and/or exacerbated by Fluoride, see www.fluoridealert.org In a community forum in 2005, you, as the then Brisbane Lord Mayor Mr Campbell Newman, said you would not support water fluoridation because a third of residents rejected mass medication. You also said "It's up to medical and dental professional associations to make the case. In 1997 they had the opportunity to make their case and the results show they were not able to do that." You have also stated you want to save taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars wasted on Labor schemes such as Fluoridation.

It’s clear that the majority of Queensland residents, particularly those in the south-east, want Daylight Saving. Having Daylight Saving would also benefit businesses, particularly small businesses and those in the tourism, retail and finance industries. Queensland’s one and only referendum on Daylight Saving was 20 years ago – an outdated result that certainly doesn’t reflect current demographics. Whilst there are many important issues facing Queensland, Daylight Saving should not be treated as mutually exclusive in relation to any of these, especially as it does not require any large ongoing capital costs to implement.
Why then, do you believe it’s fair to place the views of regional Queenslanders ahead of the majority who favour Daylight Saving, by ignoring the calls for a trial of Daylight Saving, and denying us, as Queenslanders, the opportunity have our say on this important issue?

Will you support Cross River Rail?
This project is absolutely vital to the future of public transport in South East Queensland, due to its network-wide benefits and inner-city capacity enhancement. No other cheaper alternative will do.
Queensland needs a leader who will find the resources to get this project built. Your Liberal and National colleagues in NSW have been able to find $8 billion to fund the North-West Rail Link. Queensland needs the same level of commitment to railway infrastructure to ensure that South East Queensland gets a sustainable and equitable transport system (and not just more car tunnels!).

Queensland abortion law dates from 1899 and makes abortion a crime for women and doctors. It's the oldest and most restrictive abortion law in Australia, and severely limits the provision of safe abortion services to Queensland women. Eighty percent of the voting public believes abortion should be legal. Will you commit to a review of abortion by the Queensland Law Reform Commission if elected as Premier?

Your father stopped sand mining on Fraser Island in just 6 weeks due to the "major permanent and irreversible damage" caused. Sand mining on Stradbroke Island is just as destructive and threatens vulnerable frog species. The Bligh government extended Stradbroke sand mining for 14 years. What is your policy, will you follow your father's footsteps and STOP DESTRUCTIVE SAND MINING?

Anna Bligh's government has become addicted to the revenue generated by speed cameras operated by Queensland police. This is despite the fact that speed is not a factor in the majority of fatal crashes. Overseas study has shown that the road death toll can be significantly lowered by improved driver training. Does your government offer any promises to improve driver training prior to receiving a license and move away from the antiquated and ineffective strategy of penalising drivers weeks after an offence by sending them fines in the mail?
